The Danishmend family was a Turkish dynasty that ruled an Anatolian principality from 1071/1075 to 1178. Founded by "Danishmend Ghazi," meaning "the learned one" in Persian, the principality was centered in the city of Sivas. The dynasty claimed to have fought the Crusaders and competed with the Seljuk Sultans of Rum.
